5knewyearThe New Year’s Day 5K Recycle, Reuse and Renew Race the Landing was a great success, with 257 participants on hand. The race kicked off at 8:30 am on a cool and pleasant morning, along a course that started at Founders Hall¬† and wound through oak-lined pathways, along the marsh and ponds, past the Adventure moored on Charles Towne Creek, past the palisade and archeological digs, and ended up around the starting point at Founders Hall. Board members and volunteers manned the water stations along the 5K course, which also looped around for an additional 5K for those who wanted to run even farther. Back at Founders Hall, racers, walkers, children and volunteers enjoyed a variety of home-made soups and cornbread, all prepared by members of the Board, and served up by our corps of volunteers. A variety of awards were handed out by Race Director Lisa Deaton and Park Manager Rob Powell, assisted by even more volunteers and the staff of the Landing. Lucey Mortgage, Fleet Feet, Todd Miller, Cinnabon’s and Griffin Street Printing were are generous sponsors, and members of the Friends of Charles Towne Landing donated their time and support as well.

The next Board Meeting of the Friends will be on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at 4{00 pm, in the classroom of the Visitors Center. Members who have items to submit should email Gary Nichols at garynichols1@bellsouth.net no later than March 6, 2017.

Thanks very much,

Gary Nichols for the Friends of Charles Towne Landing
